I want to share with you a little information on capturing the different Pyres (objectives) in TERA’s battlegrounds. There are a couple of concepts related to these that may come as a surprise to you!
When it comes to capturing the objectives, I’ve seen a lot of times where someone will rush in to enemies and attempt to neutralize/capture a point as fast as possible before dying. While it may seem like a good idea, it’s really not. When a team captures an objective from a neutral state, they earn 200 points as a result. It does not matter if the other team owned it first. As an example, check out the following situation:
A point is held by Team A
Team B neutralizes it and Team A takes over again. Team A earns 200 points
Team B takes over and then Team A neutralizes and takes it back. Team A and B earn 200 points
Just neutralizing an objective, if you’re not able to fully capture it, is only giving your team 200 free points. In these cases it’s actually better not to try to capture it.
Now, you can also use this to your advantage. Let’s say you see a player going after your objective, and you outnumber him or otherwise know you’ll have no problems taking him down. In this case the most efficient way to boost your score is to let him neutralize it and then kill him. The neutralizing gives the enemy team 0 points, but when you take it back you gain another 200! Easy points for little work, not to mention going from neutral to owned is pretty quick!
This mechanic can work both for and against you, so pay close attention to what’s going on in the battle. Once you get it down, the benefit can be massive (especially with how many players run around solo capturing objectives)!
